Our involvement in the Solomon Islands

Westpac was established in Honiara in 1985. Since then, our employees have been actively involved in the community in partnerships with various organisations.

In recent times, Westpac has been involved in a variety of sponsorships and community-based initiatives. These include:

  • Rotary Club of Honiara
  • ABV Young Entrepreneurs Scheme
  • Commercial Bankers Association

In 2007, Westpac donated AU$50,000 to the Rotary Club of Honiara in response to the tsunami in April of that year. Our ongoing efforts to help those impacted by this natural disaster extend to regularly working with the Rotary Club of Honiara to sort and distribute supplies donated from Australia .

The goods range from books and school supplies to hospital equipment and medical supplies, clothes and sewing machines. The Westpac team proudly performs this work with their families on an ongoing basis. The working bees are held whenever container ships transporting the goods arrive in port, often at short notice.

We are also members of or signatories to a number of multi-stakeholder and international organisations and agreements  dedicated to raising corporate responsibility performance.
